The Nature Preservation Foundation
Hope Gardens is more than a day out. It is a plant collection, a tree nursery, a classroom for thousands of students, a water system that keeps 200 acres green, and a place of rest for hundreds of thousands of Jamaicans every year. All of it is cared for by the Nature Preservation Foundation.

Each garden has its own character — formal water, quiet labyrinth, pavilions and stone, or a mile of royal palms.
What is happening right now
Reforestation, water restoration, plant conservation and education run every day of the year. This is where support goes.
Growing native and heritage trees on the estate and beyond — replacing storm losses, shading the lawns and expanding closed canopy.
Seedlings are raised in the Gardens' own nursery, hardened off on site, then planted out with community and school volunteers. Every tree is mapped, mulched and watered through its first two dry seasons.
Restoring the ponds, channels and irrigation lines that keep 200 acres of garden alive through Jamaica's dry months.
The estate's historic water network feeds the lily ponds, the Sunken Garden pools and the nursery. Rehabilitating pipes, pumps and catchment saves both water and the trees that depend on it.
Caring for a living collection of Jamaican and tropical plants — including veteran specimen trees over a century old.
Curators record, propagate and protect the collection, prioritising endemic Jamaican species and heritage specimens that cannot be replaced.
Water is the whole story
The estate's historic irrigation network feeds the lily ponds, the Sunken Garden pools and every seedling in the nursery. Rehabilitating those channels, pumps and catchments is the difference between trees that survive the dry season and trees that do not.

Partners fund whole programmes: a named grove of 1,000 trees, the irrigation that keeps them alive, or the restoration of an entire garden. Every partnership comes with clear reporting on what was planted, where, and how much of it survived.
